At the Marriott Plaza San Antonio, we love our bridal guests. Whether your affair is an intimate gathering of family and friends or a grand event reminiscent of royalty, our hotel is more than ready to accommodate your guest list up to 400 people with an array of options that include indoor and outdoor spaces.
Brides can marry their beloved in the Gazebo Garden surrounded by lush greenery including our massive Anaqua tree which currently stands at over 42 feet tall. One of the largest of its species, the tree roots were carefully moved out of the path of the construction as the hotel was being built. Guests will also enjoy the wandering Chinese pheasants and peacocks which often oversee all our bridal events.
After the “I dos,” the party can continue in the Diaz House. Located in the back gardens and built in 1840, the Diaz House is the oldest of the restored bungalows on the property and illustrates the influence of the settlers from Alsace-Lorraine. Considered the first duplex in San Antonio, the Diaz House originally featured a tufa stone exterior, and it is speculated that the stones used in its construction are the same stones used in the outer wall of the Alamo. However, it was later determined that the stone was not durable enough for exterior wear and the house was later covered with stucco.
The house’s charming interior boasts hardwood floors, high ceilings, two candle fireplaces and a private patio and wet bar. Although perfect for a wedding reception for 30 seated or 75 standing guests, the Diaz House can also serve as a place for the bride and her party to prepare for the wedding or as a space for pre-wedding festivities such as bridal brunches and showers.
Nuptial couples needing a bit more space than the Diaz House will love the Victoria House. Located adjacent to the pool and built by a member of the Staffel family in the late 1890’s, this house is an outstanding example of a Victorian cottage which, during this period, marked an economic and aesthetic coming-of-age in San Antonio. The brick construction and the Victorian design of the house were influenced by the same architectural theme as the mansions of the King William Historic District immediately south of the hotel.
The Victoria House features many elegant appointments including a complete wood bar, wood floors and two Victorian fireplaces, and can accommodate groups of 50 seated or 125 standing guests. Ideal for rehearsal dinners in addition to wedding celebrations, the Victoria House includes convenient, direct access from the street and parking areas for your guests.
Brides and grooms with large guest lists have two outstanding spaces to choose from on the property. The Hidalgo Ballroom is located adjacent to our hotel and features over 6,000 square feet of elegant celebration space including 16 foot ceilings and chandeliers. The room can be configured as a completely open space without any obstructions or can be divided into three separate sections to accommodate any style of event. Best of all, the foyer opens onto a beautiful entry courtyard featuring two striking fountains including the Lion Head Fountain, and is often chosen by couples as the ideal setting to greet guests with butler passed hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour. The perfect place to catch a glimpse of the Tower of the Americas, the courtyard also offers hosts maximum flexibility since three smaller rooms are situated close-by adding another 1, 400 square feet of space.
Bridal clients looking for a distinctively different site for their wedding will fall in love with the historic Conference Center. Formerly functioning as a German-English School, the building was built in the mid-19th century for the children of German settlers by Heino Staffel. The school was built on land once owned by Gregorio Arciniega, who received the original Spanish land grant in 1811. Consequently, the design of the Marriott Plaza San Antonio hotel was based on the design of the school buildings, which featured slanted rooftops and graceful balconies.
Over the years, these buildings have been home to the San Antonio Independent School System and San Antonio College. Completely renovated in 1981 and the site of the official signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1992, the center now houses its own service kitchen and is divided into seven meeting and banquet rooms totaling 6,300 square feet featuring stone or stucco walls, wood beams and 12 foot ceilings. Included in this space is the Cavalier Room which features beautiful stone walls and doors that open onto the porch. Perfect for an elegant dinner party, the room can accommodate up to 100 people. Outside, the Conference Center opens onto a courtyard filled with century-old pecan trees, cobble stones, green gardens, a fountain and wagon making the location ideal for dining and dancing under the stars.
Maximum flexibility is what the Conference Center is all about since the area allows brides and grooms to host completely outdoor receptions while having access to indoor spaces as well. In addition to plenty of sprawling trees, a covered porch runs the length of the building ensuring all your guests will be shaded during the event. And, at night, guests will enjoy the sparkling light from our beautiful lit trees.
